Jordan is a political lever in the face of annexation
Books / Hamada Pharaohs
What motivates Jordan to continue its insistence on being a political spearhead in support of the Palestinian position? Be firm in rejecting the policies and actions of the Israeli colony, And consciously and wisely disagree with the position of the US administration in support of Israeli expansionist policies?
Is it a hobby to appear?? Or the search of creation?? Or look for roles as some wealthy Arab countries do?? What are the motives for the Jordanian act?? Does the ladder carry crosswise?? Or are his motives essential dictated by his supreme national and security interests?
Jordan formed a political spearhead in rejecting the position of the US administration when Trump announced on 6/12/2017 his decision to recognize unified Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli colony. And moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem!!
He was a political spearhead in supporting the Palestinian position rejecting the Trump plan to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict called: The “deal of the century” announced by President Trump in Washington on 28/1/2020 in the presence and participation of Netanyahu!!
Jordan continues its firm rejection of Netanyahu’s plan to annex the settlements and the Palestinian valley to the colony’s map!!
Jordan has strategic relations with the United States in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed on 14/2/2018, It has been linked to the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty since 26/10/1994. However, there is a political spearhead in the three stations, He publicly rejected the positions of Washington and Tel Aviv: Regarding Jerusalem, And the deal of the century, He annexed the valley and the settlements.
Why did he do that?? What are his motives?? What weapons did he rely on to reject the policies of Tel Aviv and Washington?
Jordan’s motives are aimed at protecting its national security, It is the first priority in the face of the attempts of the Israeli enemy to make Jordan a vessel, a target and a haven for the deportation of Palestinians. As he did in 1948 when he succeeded in throwing the Palestinian cause and the refugees into the arms of Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, Through the displacement and displacement of more than two-thirds of the Palestinian people, and transforming their cause from political to humanitarian, And make it an Arab problem and an Arab issue, The thorny and complex situation remained in the clash of Palestinian priorities with the capitals of the three Arab countries. Until the late President Yasser Arafat transferred the Palestinian theme and address from exile to the homeland, Based on the results of the First Intifada in 1987 and the Oslo Accords in 1993.
Because of the failure of the Oslo Accords, and the failure to implement its gradual, multi-stage steps, In final stage issues: Jerusalem, refugees, security, borders, etc., and even the reoccupation of Palestinian cities that have already receded from the occupation in the occupied West Bank, The extreme right and the ultra-religious trend dominate Israeli decision-making institutions that reject the Oslo Accords and its consequences.
The governments of the Israeli colony have worked hard to make the Palestinian land expel its people, And create an atmosphere that repels the population through restrictions and impoverishment, With the aim of throwing the Palestinian cause back out of its land and homeland, May Jordan bear its social, economic and security consequences, That is why Jordan stood firm against this plan. To remain a homeland for Jordanians only, As Palestine is for the Palestinians.
Jerusalem and the Palestinian Bank were occupied in June 1967. When they were within the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Jordan has multiple national responsibilities, and moral in the work for their restoration, and the demise of the occupation from them, Jordan announced its legal and administrative disengagement from the Palestinian Bank through the disengagement decision on July 31, 1988. For the benefit of its people and the Palestinian people for two reasons: The first is the strengthening of its Palestinian identity as the opposite of the occupation that has Israelized, crossed and Judaized it. The second is to strengthen the role of the PLO as the only legitimate representative recognized by Palestinians, Arabs and internationally.
In this sense, Jordan has not shirked its responsibilities for the recovery of Jerusalem and the West Bank. It has not been abandoned in favour of the Israeli colonial project and its plans, Therefore, when he reached the Washington Declaration on 25/7/1994 with Rabin under the auspices of US President Clinton, Which paved the way for the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty – Wadi Araba on 26/10/1994, The border with Israel was demarcated without prejudice to Jordan’s common border with the Palestinian Bank and remained pending for Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
The Washington Declaration and the provisions of the peace treaty also included agreement on the status of the West Bank and no change to it agreed on its final status through Palestinian-Israeli negotiations. Therefore, Jordan considers that the annexation of the valley and the colonies by the colonial government violates the contents of the previous documents. The Washington Declaration literally stated:
1- Respect the current role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem, When the final status negotiations for the city of Jerusalem take their course, Israel will give high priority to Jordan’s historic role in these holy sites.
2. Both countries will refrain from acts or activities that adversely affect the security of the other Party; Or prejudge the final status of the negotiations.
The Wadi Araba peace treaty has stated the same content, Article III stipulates the following international borders:
The boundary defined in Appendix 1.1A is the permanent, secure and internationally recognized international boundary between Israel and Jordan without prejudice to the status of any territory that came under Israeli military control in 1967.
Thus, Jordan’s position is strengthened by its reliance on the peace treaty, which prevents any change in the features of the West Bank and Jerusalem, which is the reason for the decline in official relations with the Israeli government, which has persisted in its procedures in contravention of the agreements signed between the two parties.
This explains Jordan’s public bias in supporting the Palestinian position, opposing the American position, and its firm rejection of Israeli positions and policies.
